Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQS

Where is Cozumel Sports ?

Cozumel is an island in front of Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Cozumel Sports operates directly from Fonatur Marina, located between South of Puerta Maya cruise ship pier and North of Caleta marina. The meeting point is at Fonatur Marina’s boat ramp.

Request your scuba or snorkel equipment rental in advance at least one day before your dives, to make sure you will have the right equipment rental on board in case you need any.

I am staying in the Riviera Maya. Can I dive with Cozumel Sports?

Yes, many divers and snorkelers come from the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen and Cancun.

You need to take the ferry departing at 8 AM. from Playa del Carmen main pier to Cozumel island. Be at the pier at least 20 minutes earlier.

Once in Cozumel, take a taxi ride to Fonatur marina. It takes about 10 minutes. Transportation is not included.

I am traveling on a cruise ship. Can I dive with Cozumel Sports?

Yes, we have flexible departure times, check with us availability in advance, write cruise ship name, date and time frame in Cozumel via email.

Fonatur marina is located about 5 minutes by taxi from the cruise ship piers. Transportation is not included.

Do I need to be a certified scuba diver to go diving for the first time?

No, you don’t. You can take the Discover Scuba course. It takes about 30 minutes lesson, then few skills practice in very shallow water and you are ready to boat dive in two different reefs or dive one dive off the beach.

I am a certified diver and haven’t been diving for more than a year. Do I need to take a Refresher course?

Yes, it is highly recommended for your own safety, your family, the rest of the divers and staff on board.

Many times rusty certified divers say they don’t need it, but when they go with other divers who have dived more often, they realize that sea conditions may be challenging, not being able to keep up with the group. It is a lot better to pay a little extra and take the Refresher course and if you don’t feel safe enough, can get a Private Divemaster as well or a private boat for your group. Safety first!

Can the boat pick us up at our hotel?

If you are certified divers or snorkelers, we can pick up divers on the south hotel zone of the island: Presidente Hotel, Fiesta Americana, Sunscape Sabor, Secrets Aura, Residencias Reef, Allegro resorts, Occidental Grand, Iberostar, Cozumel and Resort, Cozumel Cantil Condos, etc.

Depending on sea conditions.

In bad weather or rough seas all departures will be from Fonatur Marina for safety of passengers and the boat itself.

NOTE: Hotels or pier owners may charge a fee per person to use their pier. Also their policies may change, so check with your hotel reception about pier pick up.

NOTE 2: For Diving students it is better to meet at Fonatur marina or Caleta marina, due to course logistics, thinking always of what it is best for students, in terms of current, depth, visibility, easy access, etc.

What forms of payment can I use?

You can pay with PayPal which accepts most of the major credit cards with 7% surcharge for transactions in Mexico.
